MAFC (Mental Athletic Football Club) approaches football as the last truly global vernaculars through which to read the post-millennium zeitgeist. In the age of hyperreality, where signifiers drift freely into new symbolic territories, football becomes a space where subcultures dissolve into the mainstream and the hypermediated mainstream simultaneously refracts into infinite new subcultural expressions.
Tianna Lee Rodriguez is a Brooklyn-based textile artist. Soccer was basically her first language growing up: years of competitive play eventually turned into coaching youth teams through college. Everything shifted after a costume design class made her fall into sewing and garment construction. From there, she started flipping vintage and upcycled football jerseys through a more feminine, playful perspective.
